What’s Traction Reading? June 2023

Join us for the next edition of our monthly series where each of our team members at TFP share something their reading that we think you might enjoy too.

Bob Heykoop’s Choice: First Trust – The Fed Is All Mixed Up

It’s still about the money as Brian Wesbury, chief economist from First Trust articulates well in his “Monday Morning Outlook” this week.  Brian’s wisdom, experience and insight on the economy and the impact on the capital markets continues to be spot on.  The fed rarely speaks to the decisions they have made to in the past two years to increase the money supply (M2) as to how the fallout from those past decisions are the exact reason we have experienced the recent record inflation in a decade!  His explanation provides some understanding to where we find our economy today.

Evan Barnes’ Choice: First Trust – The Consumer Price Indes (CPI) Rose 0.1% in May

Both the Consumer Price Index as well as the Producer Price Index have demonstrated some progress with the battle against inflation.  Here again we see the “why” and the “how” the Fed’s interest rate hikes over the past year and why even though they have paused the hikes this month the consensus is they will likely continue this year with possibly two additional rate hikes.  Stay tuned!

Drew Barnes’ Choice: LPL Research – How Long Might This Bear Market Recovery Take

The S&P 500 has now officially entered a bull market, meaning it has gained 20% from the October 2022 lows.  However, the index is still nearly 10% below it’s all-time high set on January 3rd, 2022.  How long might it take to set a new all-time high?  History suggests it may depend on whether or not the economy enters a recession.

Andrew Rhoads’ Choice: Kiplinger – How to Find the Retirement Strategy That Works for You

Your retirement should by YOUR retirement and not someone else’s.  You want a retirement strategy that’s based on your situation and designed for your needs and your comfort level, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.  Happy reading!

Pete Koury’s Choice: LPL Research – Client Letter

With the debt ceiling challenges behind us, the market is now back to focusing on inflation, the Fed and the health of the economy.

See what LPL Research is thinking on the topic.

Katy Kappius’ Choice: Kiplinger – Boost for Homebuyers From Unchanged Interest Rates

The housing market has been the topic of conversation for the last several years – from low inventory to recent rising interest rates, it felt like homebuyers could never win. Unchanged interest rates might be able to change that. Kiplinger helps provide some much needed positive news on the homefront.
